IAFPA2023

Special Casework Session

The organizers of IAFPA 2023 are delighted to announce that a Special Session focusing on Casework Practice is being planned.
Therefore, we invite researchers and practitioners involved in forensic phonetics and acoustics cases to submit abstracts for presentations covering previous cases or general casework issues. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Speaker/voice comparison methods (e.g., auditory-perceptual, acoustic-phonetic, automatic, or a mixture of different methods)
  • Areas of forensic speech and audio analysis (e.g., audio enhancement, speaker profiling, transcription of disputed utterances)
  • Exceptional case reports
  • Novel or emerging analysis techniques (e.g. relating to acoustic or automatic methods)
  • Casework issues (e.g., validation, reporting conclusions, limits of forensic phonetics)

The topics can be taken from actual cases or framed as open questions/problems, which can form a framework for subsequent discussion. The abstract format, submission deadline, and submission portal follow the main IAFPA 2023 submission guidelines. Submissions for this Special Session should be for oral presentations only. Submissions for posters are accepted but will only be considered for the general poster sessions.
